About Us

I am Me ♥ A Happy ♥ Thrifty ♥ Tattooed ♥ Mum ♥ Award Winning Blogger ♥
♥ Obsessive Memory keeper ♥ I sew ♥ I crochet ♥ I love Christmas!

You can also find me scribbling away over at my Personal development blog Life So You.

Family ♥ I have been married to my Hubby, (who I lovingly refer to as Papa Syder) for 29 years. We met and fell in love as teenagers and we have worked really hard to create a successful, happy marriage which has not always been easy. We have been blessed with four Kids, and six Grandchildren. We totally adore them all. We home educated  our youngest two children, who are now grown up doing their own thing.

A Simple Life ♥ After losing my Mum to Cancer very suddenly in 2006, we decided to slow down our busy lives, our life had become to hectic and we had become like passing ships in the night. This was not our answer to a happy life, so we opted for a more simple lifestyle by packing up our house and heading out to live in the countryside.

Me ♥ I'm an old fashioned girl with an old fashioned heart. I like to be busy and creative, so I write, crochet, sew, grow my own food, I have a keen interest in photography and I am currently studying towards a degree in creative writing and psychology. We also love anything that is Christmas so I recently started a new blog called The Christmas Cupboard.

Passions ♥ After growing up in London, I now love living in the Essex countryside. I have a real passion for all things vintage and kitsch, exciting charity shop finds and making over old pieces of furniture. I like to surround myself with quirky second hand things that I imagine someone, somewhere once loved, as much as I do now. Both Papa and I are always on the lookout for thrifty garden ideas and during the warmer months we enjoy spending as much time as possible in the garden, listening to 1940's radio and pottering about, usually working on a new garden project.

The Blog ♥ I have been blogging about our life, our loves, our thoughts, our creations and the everyday comings and goings of life in our home for over ten years. It started out as a place to record our previous life in North Devon and to remember my Mum, but it has ended up becoming much more than that and has presented me with some amazing opportunities, working with many brands and charities, including travelling overseas with Cow & Gate.

In 2013  I won a BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Award (BIBs) for the 'Lifestyle' category and it is an achievement that I am immensely proud of and an award that I am honored to have received. Huge Thanks to BritMums & everyone who voted for my blog. I also wrote for the BritMums Positively Inspirational Round-up for a couple of years and I loved every minute of it.

  1. Love your site. Need some time to have a proper look around. Your family is adorable. :)

  2. Hi

I’ve just stumbled upon your blog & it’s wonderful. It looks as though you’ve found a beautiful spot to reside & as much as I’d like to read through the whole site I think it would take weeks, Months! I want to though!!
I love all things North Devon. I have relatives who……I think live close by, between Appledore & Fremington.
The view they have is stunning.

    Keep posting The Devon Syders.

    1. Hi Jo, Thanks and I look forward to your Tweets x

  5. Wow, what a story! I love that you were brave enough to pack it all in, after realising that you were becoming 'ships passing in the night'. My husband and I said the same thing only last week. It's so easy to let the busyness of life, creep in and take over. He would love chickens ;)

    1. Hi Suzanne, Thanks for stopping by. We didn't realise how much better life becomes, by living on less until we took the plunge. Once you make the decision to do it, you will never look back x

  6. Looking forward to learning lots as we are about to embark on the chicken keeping adventure!

    1. Hi Grace, Thanks for dropping by. I look forward to following you on your chicken adventure x
