It has come as absolutely no surprise to me that according to a recent survey from Philips, building a den sparks our kids imaginations more than watching the TV or playing on computer games. I can remember as a child spending hour after hour building dens and feeling all cosy and snug as I hid inside with a huge sense of pride and satisfaction, because I had built it all by myself.
My den building days were way back in the 70's but kids haven't really changed, they still love to build dens and when Philips asked a group of them what makes the perfect den, half of the kids said a 'no grown up' policy when it come to building their perfect hideaway. They want to create it all by themselves, just like we did way back in the day.
A lot of the kids agreed that they would need lots of poles and sheets for their den, plus loads of space for their toys and books. Colourful lighting was also agreed to be an additional bonus.
As it was half term last week and most days were pretty grim weather wise, I built a den with our eight year old Granddaughter. You can read here what she had to say about it on her very own blog .
We she had so much fun in her den, turning it in to a cosy home with a soft, fluffy blanket and pretty bunting. A Philips Disney night light was the perfect finishing touch. A re-chargeable light that has a soft squidgy body, making it perfect for creative play. We plugged in it's base, sat the light on top and charged it for about 30 minutes, then a gentle shake switches the light on and off.
Creating a magical environment is really important when building a den and colourful lighting is a great way to achieve this, helping to unlock a child's imagination by instantly transforming them into another world. Shh...Princess Sleeping inside her castle.
Philips can help you here to create the perfect lighting experience for your child's den and/or bedroom.
*We were sent a Philips night light and a den making kit free of charge for the purpose of this blog post. We have received no financial reward and our opinions are entirely our own.
