The Gallery - Rewind

My old school pal Sharon tagged me in this photo on Facebook a couple of years ago and I love it because I think it sums up teenage girls in London during the eighties. That's me on the left in the black coat with the kiss curl on my forehead and brolly on my shoulder. I can't actually remember this day at all but I'm guessing we were collecting our exam results from school after leaving, as I recognise my secondary school in the background. The three girls with me were some of my best pals who I frequently bunked off with, smoked with behind the science lab, hung out with at school. I have no idea why I'm the only one not wearing yellow or even if they had all planned to wear the same colour that day. This photo takes me back to 1986, I was 16 and a year later I met my Husband.

  3. Hilarious. Loving the defiant teenage gesticulations. And that kiss curl! I'll bet you spent hours and much thick pink gel getting that right?!!

  4. Brilliant brilliant post and I just love the photo. I have a huge fondness for the Eighties, was such an amazing era - especially as a teen! Seemed a lot more fun too although that's probably because there were fewer responsibilties :)

i was always a good 80's school girl and never went down the back lane for a fag or to hang out with the boys. i love the fashions in this photo - the big hair and yellow blazer. AND a Clock House bag - no way! x

  16. I was in my final year at University in 1986. Brings back memories of Chelsea Girl ( we didn't have Clockhouse) when I was in funds. It was upcycled jumble sales and make do and mend when I wasn't!

  18. This is a brilliant picture... the hair, the earrings, the clothes. I would have been 15 in 1986, the year before I took my o'levels.... I seem to remember yellow being a very 'in' colour. X
