December 30 – Gift. Reverb10

This month, gifts and gift-giving can seem inescapable. What’s the most memorable gift, tangible or emotional, you received this year? (Author: Holly Root)
The most memorable gift for me this year was the bouquet of flowers Hubby had delivered to me for my 40th.
It was such a lovely surprise because he had the florist specially add blue roses. You can get blue roses that are grown specially with blue dye but hubby didn't have enough time for that as the idea for a blue rose surprise came to him at the last minute. Instead the florist waxed real red roses in a blue wax....very cleverly done.
There is a story behind the blue rose for me...It goes back to our wedding 22 yrs ago. I had always wanted blue roses in my wedding bouquet...It was a dream I had from a little girl. Again it was too late for me to have them as Mum organised my wedding in 10 weeks as I was expecting and she wanted me married before I started to show, bless her.
In the end Mum made my posies of fuchsia and white roses. They were beautiful but hubby never forgot hat I really wanted blue roses and made sure I had some for my 40th.
It made my day so special...That he had remembered.
I am lucky to have the gift of a wonderful husband.

Facebook Weekly weigh-in Group

As most of you know I have put on a lot of weight over the past four years and I really need to lose it not only for health reasons but also because I am to be a bridesmaid for my Cousin next september.

I am starting up a weekly weigh-in group on Facebook...Not to disclose our weight but how much we lose each week. We will have a dedicated day when we will report on the group wall what we have lost that week. We will all weigh ourselves on the same day for an incentive to stick to a diet and to offer support to eachother.
Dieting is sooooo boring when going it alone and we tend to give up too quickly. We can offer eachother tips, recipes, motivation and support...
We Can Do this ...We can lose the weight next year!
No more excuses!
Lets make 2011 our year for losing the extra weight we are carrying!

We need a Group name so here are a few suggestions from other interested ladies I've created a poll so we can vote on what we want our group to be called.

Christmas Day

Of Course Christmas morning was full of surprizes...

The kids got more or less everything on their lists

Thanks to Papa putting in a Good word with Santa

There were lots of smiles which is what we like to see

After the present unwrapping Papa and our neighbour had to construct a table for our Christmas dinner to seat 12 of us.

The table was then set and our guests began to arrive

Yes Mr R from next door was suffering with a sore head from the night before

Infact all the adults were...

I set the table with snowman soups
For every guest

A Lucky sixpence each

And homemade Crackers...
All named

Whats inside...
I wonder...
Well the kids were and leading up to Cristmas they kept trying to peek

I filled them each with a hat, joke, party popper, Christmas earings for the ladies and toy cars for the men

They appeared pleased with the contents

Getting stuck in to our delicious Christmas dinner
Cooked for us by Papa

Its the first year ever I haven't cooked it and I did enjoy having it cooked by someone else for once

Mama & Papa sitting down to enjoy our meal
(Me wearing my new apron Auntie J made me for Christmas...Thankyou Auntie)

Dinner things cleared away
including the mountain of washing up,
Papa lit the fire and we sat down to chill out and watch the soaps
on TV

A Wonderful day was had by all!

Christmas Eve

Christmas eve was spent having a complete tidy up of the house and cooking the Christmas meats, boiled Ham, roated beef, pork and The Turkey. Our eldest Son J came home for the holidays.
We got ourselves ready and made our way over to our Neighbours house for a Party.
Of Course the Vinyl came out and we danced and sang the night away to Chas and Dave

It was lovely to go out Christmas eve...Its something we haven't done for years.

We had a Brilliant time, Lots of Laughs and Good Cheer

Home to Bed to wake up to goodies from Santa!
Merry Christmas!

A Present to yourself - Reverb10

December 25 – Photo – a present to yourself
Sift through all the photos of you from the past year. Choose one that best captures you; either who you are, or who you strive to be. Find the shot of you that is worth a thousand words. Share the image, who shot it, where, and what it best reveals about you.

For this Reverb10 I didnt use photo's of me from the past year as any from this year do not reflect who I really am due to my weight issue so I used some photo's from the past 20 years.
Firstly I am a Wife, Mother and Sister.
For many years my Brothers were like My children and I have Loved them as if they are.
This photo was taken about 18 years ago in Centre parcs.
We all love it there...And used to go in big groups with our Mum, cousins & family friends.
Centre parcs is a big part of who we are and holds many many memories for us.
The first time we went was 22 yrs ago and every year after that until five years ago.
We only havent been the past couple of years due to moving house twice and skinting our purse.

Secondly I am a Granddaughter, Daughter and Grandmother.
This is the only photo I have of us all together.

Lastly I am just Me...
This is me in My favourite place in the whole World...
I am the most chilled in this photo that I think I've ever been.

New Name - Reverb10

December 23 – New Name

Let’s meet again, for the first time. If you could introduce yourself to strangers by another name for just one day, what would it be and why? (Author: Becca Wilcott)

I actually quite like my name although I wasn't very keen on it as a child. Not many people shared it with me...infact I only knew of one other in my school. It is quite an old fashioned name but did become popular about 20 years ago.

Mum wanted to call me Sophia after Sophia Loren...Dad wanted to call me Kelly after Kelly's hereo's (He was a big Clint Eastwood fan...As am I). Neither won and they compromised with my name.

So no...I wouldn't change my name...It has history and it is who I am.

Travel - Reverb10

Todays Reverb10 prompt is Travel...
Bit of a touchy subject for me as I wanted to travel to Bulgaria this year to celebrate my 40th and to mark that it would have been my Mums 60th.

Mum loved Bulgaria...The Mountains took her breath away. She loved how simply life is over there...and how beautiful it is. Mum spent a lot of time there and had plans to retire over there. It wasn't to be.

I am desperate to visit the Rila Monastery...I worked on an assignment studying the Monastery at University a few years back and would love to see it.
That also wasn't to be...
My yearning to go caused a rift in the family...
An unnecessary rift that was not my fault.

Its a long story but the upset and hurt this rift has caused has left me feeling less enthusiastic to visit Bulgaria. Mum would be sad to hear that.

Future Self - reverb10

December 21 – Future Self.

Imagine yourself five years from now. What advice would you give your current self for the year ahead? (Bonus: Write a note to yourself 10 years ago. What would you tell your younger self?) (Author: Jenny Blake)

Todays reverb10 prompt is a tricky one. It is soooo difficult to imagine myself five years from now because life can change so quickly. I really hope mine doesn't change too much because I am happier than I think I've ever been. I want that to continue.

If I'd written myself a letter ten years ago it would say a lot of things. It is difficult to have regrets in life because I think those regrets and mistakes we make in life teach us huge lessons. Lessons that enable us to develop ourselves, our lives and our futures. Without those regrets we would be pretty empty in a lot of ways.

Dear Me aged 30,

Move the family to North Devon asap...You will have a wonderful, carefree lifestyle. Beach living is the way to go. The people down there are so creative & chilled and you will learn a whole lot quicker that material things are not the beauty of life.

Be careful who you mix with...some people are just out to destroy happy people and suck on their energy. There will be a lot of people come into your life over the next ten years who will drain you...mentally and physically. If you move to Devon these people can be avoided!

Your social life is not that important! Partying too much will get you no where. Being at home with the family is what matters. Not night clubs and parties! Life is Not boring without Partying!

Which leads me onto Work...

You & Papa do not need to work days & nights for that new leather sofa, top of the range TV's, stereo's and other material things. These long work hours will take you away from concentrating on eachother and your marriage. If you move to Devon these 'things' wont matter to you as much.

Finish your Degree...You love to learn new things and studying what you love is such a buzz. You will make some Fantastic new friends and absolutely Love Uni! It will change your whole outlook on life. Finish Your Degree! It is one of the things ten years from now you will not regret!

Keep a very close eye on Mum...She is ill. Mum knows it but has trouble convincing the doctors. It's cancer and it's serious. A cancer that if caught early enough will save her life. If you only listen to one thing from this letter let it be this. I am begging you. Go with Mum to the doctors...scream & shout if you have to...Make them listen! Mum wont tell you how unwell she is.

Forget your Dad...Nothing will change!

Live everyday as if its your last!

Love & Hugs

Yourself aged 40 xxx

Just a little update...A very good Friend of mine read this post and very wisely pointed out to me that my yearning to have moved to a more idyllic area could also have caused problems. It isnt the place we live that brings happiness..."Happiness lies deep within us"

My Friend is soooo right and I urge her to write a blog of wise words.
Her words encouraged me to think a little deeper. Life would have been different if we had moved when the children were little ...maybe it may have been more relaxed, happier or more fulfilling but it could also have not been like that at all. We would also have lost out on so much. Main thing being we would not have our Beautiful Granddaughter. We adore her and life would not be the same without the joy she has bought to all our lives. I also have some Friends that are Good people that I wouldn't have met if we had took the plunge and moved to Devon ten years ago.

Conclusion being...
Search deep within yourself for a contented life...Not your surroundings. Our environment does not predict how happy our lives will be. Only us as individuals can do that. We are our own destiny!

Thankyou to Lisa for so much inspiration X

Snowman Soup

I Love Snowman Soups...I think they are such a cute idea and make wonderful gifts that anyone would appreciate.

They are basically hot chocolate in a bag and are really easy to make.

You need to buy:
A Box of candy canes
celophane cone bags
Instant Hot Chocolate
Mini Marshmallows
Chocolate Chips
Curling ribbon
Card for labels

You can download free Snowman printables for the labels here.
The cute poem reads...
Was told that youve been good this year,
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
Youll need to warm the spirit.
So heres a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick...
Just add hot water and sip it slow...
Its sure to do the trick!

Cut them out and glue them to some coloured card and put them to one side to dry.

Open a cello cone (available from ebay) and scoop in some hot chcolate.

Layer with marshmallows

and chocolate chips

I stood mine in a pint glass for stability while I was layering

Cut some curling ribbon and tie around the top of the cone bag to seal it.
When your labels are dry punch a hole in the corner to attach the label to the bag with more curling ribbon.

Cellotape a candy cane to the completed snowman soup.

I'll be using mine as little gifts and for place settings on the Christmas table.

Happy Christmas!
